Something feels disingenuous about asking for arbitrary amounts of money to cover fundraising costs. Is Smart DCC right for me?
The amounts Smart DCC offers to your donors are not arbitrary. Just like classic DCC is based on the approximate hard cost of processing a donation, Smart DCC simply adjusts for the soft costs as well. Your integrity remains completely intact. It’s reasonable to ask your donors to cover more than just the hard costs of processing a donation. In our studies, Smart DCC is seen as being more transparent and trustworthy, which drives more DCC conversions. And the addition of choice puts the power in your donor’s hands to decide how big an impact they’d like to have.
The DCC amounts are way too high. Won’t donors just leave the page?
The minimum amount of Smart DCC won’t feel too high to your donors by design. The minimum amount is enough to cover most of your hard costs and some of your soft costs, all while appearing to be a great value for your donor. The higher level options exist for your power donors to make the most impact and to help encourage value donors to make the minimum impact.
I’m not comfortable with this way of fundraising. Can I disable Smart DCC?
You’re not alone. Many fundraisers are challenged by the idea of Smart DCC because of their traditional view of DCC – simply covering the processing fee. Remember – your mission is worth the full support of your donors beyond just the processing fees! And yet, most fundraisers are only convinced once they realize they’ve made more in DCC in 3 days than they have the entire previous month, all without impacting conversions! We encourage you to do the math over a 3-day period and keep an open mind. If you’re still not convinced, you can manually adjust your DCC settings.
What about the Smart DCC rates offered at higher donation amounts?
As the size of the donation increases, so does the likelihood your donor will NOT cover the fees. For example, on $5,000, it won’t make a difference whether you ask for $99 or $249 to cover the fees, donors giving gifts of this size have a predetermined amount they want to transact, and often want to stick to it. The Smart DCC calculation automatically adjusts at higher donation amounts to ensure large donors have the option to contribute to cover costs but are still incentivized to complete their donation.
